What You Will Learn
Who it's for
For remote-pilot applicants and working drone operators who want to study a defined Part 107 topic with short, self-paced lessons. It is independent education—not FAA training, an FAA credential, or a promise of a test result.
About This Course
Plan the airspace before you plan the shot.
Airspace & LAANC Quickstart is a focused course for newly certified Part 107 remote pilots who need a repeatable way to move from a client location to a supported go/no-go decision.
You will practice identifying airspace, reading the parts of a sectional chart that matter for a mission, checking whether a planned operation may be eligible for LAANC, and treating an authorization as one part of—not a substitute for—safe planning. The course closes with a conservative decision sequence for weather, NOTAMs, site conditions, and changing information.
What this course is for
- Planning straightforward commercial missions with current aviation information.
- Building the habit of checking official sources rather than relying on a map screenshot or memory.
- Knowing when to pause, re-plan, seek current guidance, or decline a mission.
What this course is not
SkyPilot Prep is an independent education provider. This course is not FAA material, legal advice, flight instruction, an airspace authorization, a waiver, or permission to fly. Always verify current FAA, airport, local, site, and manufacturer requirements for the specific operation.
Your study system
Mission-first planning
Lessons follow the decisions a remote pilot makes from location intake through a documented go/no-go call.
Chart reading in context
Practice extracting the relevant chart details without pretending a chart alone clears a flight.
Conservative judgment
Use stop points and verification prompts when information, conditions, or the site changes.
Prerequisites
- You hold a Remote Pilot Certificate or are learning alongside a qualified remote pilot.
- You can access current FAA airspace, authorization, weather, NOTAM, and local/site information.
- You will use current official sources and your aircraft documentation for every real mission.
Completion record
Completion records your learning progress with SkyPilot Prep. It is not an FAA certificate, rating, endorsement, authorization, waiver, or operating privilege.
Independent preparation
SkyPilot Prep is an independent education provider and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration. This course is not official FAA material, legal advice, flight instruction, an airspace authorization, waiver, or permission to fly. Verify current FAA, airport, local, site, weather, NOTAM, and aircraft-manufacturer information for each operation.
Questions before takeoff
Does this course provide a LAANC authorization?
No. This course explains a planning workflow. You must use an approved service and current official information for any actual authorization request.
Can I rely on this course instead of current FAA data?
No. Airspace, facility maps, NOTAMs, weather, and local conditions change. Verify current official sources for every mission.
Is this legal advice or permission to fly?
No. It is independent educational material, not legal advice, flight instruction, an approval, waiver, or authorization.
What is included with this course?
Your enrollment includes the self-paced course lessons, the published course outline, and any free preview lesson shown on this page. It is independent preparation material; it does not include an FAA knowledge test appointment or FAA-issued credential.
How long can I access the course?
The current application keeps access available while your enrollment record remains active. It does not enforce a time-based access expiration. If a refund is approved, access to that refunded course may be revoked under the refund policy.
How does the 14-day refund policy work?

Does this course replace the FAA knowledge test?
No. This course does not replace the FAA knowledge test. Applicants must follow the FAA's remote-pilot steps, including taking the Unmanned Aircraft General—Small knowledge test at an FAA-approved knowledge testing center.
Is the completion certificate an FAA certificate?
No. Any completion certificate is a SkyPilot Prep course-completion record only—not an FAA certificate, rating, license, or credential.
How do I register and schedule the knowledge test?
Create an FAA Tracking Number in IACRA, then schedule the Unmanned Aircraft General—Small knowledge test at an FAA-approved knowledge testing center. Review the FAA's remote pilot steps before booking.
What are the score, question count, and test fee?
The current PSI UAG bulletin lists 60 scored questions plus 5 unscored validation questions, 120 minutes, and a 70% passing score. The FAA directs applicants to the testing provider to schedule and pay; confirm the current testing-center fee during booking. See the PSI UAG Applicant Information Bulletin.
